The Forest Spiral in Darmstadt is an unusual building that illustrates solutions for the future.
Nature and the city have never been so clearly united.
It is a building dedicated to nature and people’s dreams, an example of how nature can gain a stronger foothold in the city.

Hundertwasser, 1996

This Hundertwasser architecture project in the Bürgerparkviertel (in the northern part if the city) was handed over to the its residents on September 15, 2000. Conceived by Hundertwasser as an alternative to rational architecture, the project functions in anticipation of an ecologically conscious age in which humans can survive in intimate harmony with nature and their own creativity.

In accordance with the Hessian Cultural Heritage Act, Hundertwasser’s Forest Spiral was designated a valuable cultural monument on May 27, 2026, and is now protected by the Darmstadt Cultural Heritage Authority.
